Old Soest Road
The Alte Soestweg stretches for about 12 kilometers from the beautiful Möhnesee (junction 70+66), across open countryside, past dense wooded areas, through the idyllic Kleiberg Nature Reserve (junction 96) on mostly gravel paths, all the way to the historic Altstadt of Soest (junction 47+48) or in the opposite direction.

Difficulty
The stretch of trail through the 230-hectare former military training area between Büecke and Hiddingsen is particularly scenic. The area has since been included in the international network of protected areas known as “Natura 2000,” and lush nature has completely reclaimed the former military training area.
Today, the “Kleiberg Nature Reserve” resembles a relic of pre-industrial agriculture in the Soest Börde: semi-wild horses, Heck cattle, and flocks of sheep keep the landscape open as grazing animals. 700,000 euros in funding were invested in developing this nature experience. The elevated viewing platforms invite visitors to linger and observe—young cyclists especially love it here, particularly in the spring when the sheep flock is raising its young.
