The village was first mentioned in documents around 1200. In the course of history, the village "Bucholt" (1210) was given various place names that referred to a Buchenwald forest that once covered large parts of the Haarstrang. Farms and barns made of local sandstone still characterize the townscape today.
Next to the Schützenhaus, a small avenue of birch trees points to a former trade route, the "Frankenweg", which led from Soest to Cologne in the Middle Ages. At the Schützenhaus, a foot and cycle path leads to the adjacent Kleiberg nature reserve. Kleiberg" nature reservea former military training area where semi-wild horses and cattle graze today.
On the "Wippringsener Weg", under an old lime tree, there is a medieval court site from the time of the Femegerichte around the year 1500 AD. From here, you can enjoy a unique view of the Soest Börde and far beyond.
